  1. Anabaptists: These are groups of people who believed only adults should be baptized because only adults understand what it means to accept Christianity as a faith.

 

  1. Henry VIII: He took the power away from the pope because he was upset that the pope would not let him divorce his wife so he could remarry and hopefully have a son. 

 

  1. Mary Tudor: She is a daughter of Henry VIII who tried to bring Catholicism back to Europe but failed.  She also locked her sister up for a very long time. 

 

  1. Book of Common Prayer: It is a book, which imposed a moderate form of Protestant service but kept some Catholic doctrines.  

 

  1. Elizabeth I: She was the sister of Mary and has some religious peace success.  She tried to bring Catholicism back to Europe as well.

 

  1. Catholic Reformation: This is when the Catholic Church reformed, trying to get all of the corruption out of the Church. 

 

  1. Council of Trent: The Council of Trent was a religious group, which believe that the way to salvation was through faith and that the Bible was the main source of religious truth but not the only source.  This group took steps to end the abuses of the Catholic Church. 

 

  1. Inquisition: It is the judicial system run by the Catholic Church, which took care of Protestant rebels.

 

  1. Jesuits: This was a group of people formed together by Ignatius to help spread Catholicism over Europe once again.

 

  1. St. Teresa of Avila: She reorganized convents and Church monasteries across Europe. 

 

 

  1. Nicolaus Copernicus: He was a scientist who thought that everything in the universe revolves around a sun.

 

  1. Tycho Brahe: He supplied evidence, which supported Copernicus’ theory.

 

  1. Johannes Kepler: He used Brahe’s evidence to further prove Copernicus’ theory to be correct but to also find out that plants don’t orbit in a perfect circle. 

 

  1. Galileo Galilei: He used a makeshift telescope to study the sunspots on the sun and the craters on the moon. 

 

  1. Andreas Vesalius: He published a book, which was the first accurate study of human anatomy.

 

  1. William Harvey: He showed how blood is circulated through the human body and how the heart works as a pump.

 

  1. René Descartes: He stressed that human reasoning is the best way to understanding.  He also pursued the scientific method.
